University Christian Church Sign
Challenge
Signage has never been a definitive part of University Christian Church’s identity. A highly polished signage program would have been unrepresentative of a community that celebrates the humanity every individual possesses. Building signage existed out of necessity, but it was starting to show signs of age. It was visually busy, washed-out, and inconspicuously located. It didn’t suit the warm and textured home that the vibrant congregation had shaped in the beautiful, historic building. The signs also featured old branding that had been recently updated as part of a website refresh. It was time for new building identification, with a more considered process.
Response
The new signs derive their aesthetics from the building, harmonizing with its façade. Plainly identifying the building and confirming the viewer’s arrival at their destination, the signs achieve their guiding paradigm: a house number on a family home. The new signs are posted in prominent locations and prioritize legibility, unlike the previous signs. Based on the success of this project, church leadership reached out for additional work that became the TakeRoot branding project.
